Mary Ellen, Sr. Vice President, has lived in the Kansas City area for 45 years and has been a volunteer and professional fundraiser for nearly 40 years. She founded the Foundation for Providence Medical Center and Saint John Hospital, and served as its chief development officer. With this came extensive experience with the individuals, corporations and donors within these communities as well as the healthcare needs of those served. Multi-million dollar major gift fundraising efforts have succeeded under her leadership and counsel.
Mary Ellen’s extensive experience as fundraising counsel has served elementary and higher education and social service. Education has been a key value of hers both personally and professionally. This led to a career in higher education as a fundraiser working on numerous successful capital campaigns and ultimately holding the position as Vice President for Advancement for Avila University.
Having served on the hospital board of St. Joseph Health Center, chaired its Strategic Planning Committee and been a member of ancillary medical staff for Kansas City area hospitals as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Mary Ellen clearly understands the need for community collaboration. Success with public and private funders and the creation of strategies to overcome the challenges of raising funds in a constantly changing environment have been an important element of this success. Mary Ellen understands the process of planning and the positive impact proper planning and implementation have on an organization and the community it serves.
